On the US PGA Tour, Jonas Blixt of Sweden won the Frys.com Open in a victory over the Americans John Mallinger, Jason Kokrak, and Tim Petrovic.

Blixt surged to victory during Sunday's final round with a three-under-par 68 that allowed the young Swede to claim his first career victory on the PGA Tour. Having started the final round two strokes behind Mallinger, who was overnight leader, Blixt treated spectators to a display of his finest form yet as he navigated the course to clinch the title.

A seven-foot birdie putt at the seventeenth hole put the Swede safely in the lead, and a par at the final hole was all he needed to lift the trophy. Blixt now joins the US PGA Tour's winners' circle, and with his first title and prize money of $900 000 the talented young golfer has much to celebrate this week.

In Europe, Ireland's Shane Lowry was victorious at the Portugal Masters on Sunday, beating Ross Fisher by a single stroke to clinch the title.

In an action-packed final round that saw the two players neck to neck, Fisher failed to force a playoff at the final hole when his ball lipped out. For Lowry, who bogeyed the final hole, a sense of relief accompanied his victory which could so easily have been a defeat if Fisher had birdied the hole.

Earlier in the final round, Lowry had made up a four-shot overnight deficit as he carved his way through the front nine. As sunny weather persisted throughout the day on Sunday, the Irishman wowed the crowd with an eagle 2 on the eleventh hole. However, a bogey at the final hole put Lowry's victory in danger for a brief moment until Fisher's birdie and par attempts proved unsuccessful.

This is Lowry's second win on the European Tour since his debut in the 2010 season.
