The US PGA Tour travelled to Australia last week for the World Cup of Golf, which was won by local favourite Jason Day.

As the final round entered its home stretch on Sunday, Day found his overnight lead challenged by Denmark's Thomas Bjorn. The two players traded places at the top of the leader board, sharing the lead until the sixteenth hole when Day moved ahead by two strokes. The Australian kept his nerve for the remaining two holes and tapped-in to win the World Cup for his home country.

Despite a strong charge for the lead with birdies at the 11th and 13th, Bjorn satisfied himself with second place at the event, while the American Adam Scott came in third. While the tournament is organised by national team, this year's World Cup also rewarded individual players for their performance on the course. The Australian team was victorious, with the United States in second place. Japan and Denmark shared third position.

Sunday's victory was especially exciting for the home crowd, and marks a milestone in Jason Day's career. The champion is still mourning the loss of several relatives who passed away in the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, but his focus and resolve to win allowed him to weather this difficult time and clinch the title for Australia.

The LPGA Tour held its season-ending Titleholders Tournament at the weekend, with Feng Shanshan of China winning the prestigious event by a single stroke over America's Gerina Piller.

The world number seven made up for lost time on Sunday, carding a bogey-free round of 66 to win her third LPGA event. With two late birdies at the 15th and 17th, Feng set the stage for her narrow victory with an impressive performance on the back nine. Piller was a stroke back in second place, with Thailand's Pornanong Phatlum coming third, two strokes behind Feng.
