Player Profile: Best Rounds of 2013

Best Rounds of 2013

As the US PGA and European Tours embark on their 2014 seasons before the festive break – in accordance with their new schedules – the professional golf world has a chance to reflect on twelve months of outstanding golf.

2013 saw several impressive victories on both sides of the Atlantic, with many winners being decided during a single victorious round – here are some of the best rounds of 2013, played by the world's finest golfers.

Phil Mickelson – Final Round at the British Open
Phil Mickelson broke his "second place curse" at this year's British Open to lift the Claret Jug for the first time.

The American's victory came as a surprise to many because it unfolded late in the championship – starting the final round five strokes off the lead, Mickelson executed a final round (in challenging weather conditions) that came very close to perfection, carding four birdies on the final six holes to clinch the title.

Jason Dufner – Second Round at the PGA Championship
The American Jason Dufner won his first-ever major title this year at the PGA Championship, and his performance in the second round set the stage for this career-milestone victory.

Dufner was on fire from the first tee to the last green that Friday, carding a record-breaking round of 63 at Oak Hill – one of the lowest rounds ever recorded in a major championship. The cushion created by this remarkable round allowed Dufner to retain his lead and lift the trophy two days later.

Yani Tseng – Final Round at the Australian Women's Open
Taiwan's Yani Tseng mounted a spirited charge for the Australian Women's Open title during the tournament's final round, making up a 7-stroke deficit to challenge Jiyai Shin of Japan for the trophy. Although Shin edged ahead to clinch the title, runner-up Tseng carded the best round of the tournament and won the respect of fans and competitors alike.
