On the US PGA Tour, the Greenbrier Classic was won by tour rookie Scott Stallings in a playoff against Bob Estes and Bill Haas. As the final round unfolded in warm weather on Sunday in West Virginia, fans were kept guessing with all three players vying for the lead. Stallings made several impressive shots, including a five-foot birdie putt at the final hole that put him in the playoff.

As fortune would have it, another birdie at the same hole would guarantee Stallings the title as he triumphed for the first time on the US PGA Tour. For Anthony Kim, who started the final round a stroke clear of the field, victory was soon out of reach as he failed to make birdie on several holes. The three-time champion finished tied for sixth place.

In Europe, Simon Dyson of Britain won the Irish Open by a single shot over Australia’s Richard Green. In a final round that saw his tournament score dip to 15 under par, Dyson waited anxiously in the clubhouse as Green completed his round that could have forced a playoff depending on the Australian’s score. In the end, Green dropped a shot at the last hole and the trophy went to Dyson who celebrated his fifth career win. Britain’s Stephen Gallacher was in third place. Rory McIlroy carded a 71, putting him reasonably far behind the lead.

In women’s golf, Taiwanese sensation Yani Tseng continued her remarkable top form as she won the British Women’s Open on Sunday. Tseng, who has proven almost unstoppable this season as she racks up victory upon victory, set a record when she became the youngest player to win a major championship at the age of 22. Never before has a professional golfer of either gender enjoyed a major victory at such a young age.
